How to Make Cold Brew Tea with Tea Powder

A rich tasty brew almost as thick and rich as coffee when you use our Yunnan Gold Rush.  All of our microground teas can be made into a delicious cold brew.

Cold brew from tea powder is sweet and smooth because cold water brings out the flavor and not the bitter tannins from a hot water brew.  Always use a cold filtered water for best flavor.  This is the simplest cold brew drink you can make.  This makes a medium strength brew; adjust according to your preference.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon tea powder
  • 3-4 cups cold, filtered water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tea: In a large pitcher, combine the tea powder with the cold, filtered water. Stir well to ensure the tea powder is fully dissolved.
  1. Steep: Cover the pitcher and place it in the refrigerator. Let it steep overnight or for 8-12 hours, depending on how strong you like your tea.
  1. Serve: After steeping, give the tea a final stir and let any sediment fall to the bottom.  Can be served HOT or COLD:  Add ice and pour over, or steam and add steamed milk, or heat in a pot and add milk and sweetener.
  1. Store:  Cover well and store in refrigerator, up to 4 days.

Tips for the Best Cold Brew Tea

Make a paste:  Make a paste or slurry using just a tablespoon or two of water, and mix well.

Quality Water: Using filtered water can make a big difference in the taste of your tea.

Adjust Strength: If you find the tea too strong or too weak, adjust the amount of tea powder or steeping time to suit your preference.

Enjoy your homemade cold brew HOT or COLD!
